LPKF Laser & Electronics has announced it will exhibit at the 2016 Del Mar Electronics Exposition, which takes place May 4th through May 5th at the Del Mar Fairgrounds in San Diego, Calif. From booth 623, LPKF will be creating printed circuit boards on its best-selling PCB milling machine, the ProtoMat S63.
The ProtoMat S63 is a benchtop PCB milling machine perfect for any engineering environment. It creates PCBs by milling away unwanted copper from substrates, leaving only the desired circuit traces behind.
In-house PCB prototyping saves time and money over outsourced prototyping alternatives. The ProtoMat S63 is capable of producing multiple design iterations in a single day and its long list of applications includes everything...

Altium is scheduled to release a new documentation workflow available exclusively in their flagship PCB design platform, Altium Designer 16.1. Draftsman™ provides PCB designers with a unified documentation solution with customizable drawing views, documentation templates, and a fully complete design to documentation workflow in Altium Designer 16.1.

“Engineers have long relied on tools for documentation that are cumbersome and limited in functionality,” said Alexey Sabunin, Altium Designer Product Manager. “Draftsman™ eliminates the tedium of having to import and export design files to 3rd party tools and integrates the PCB design and documentation workflows in the Altium Designer interface. That’s one less interface for engineers to have to navigate and one centralized...

Computational fluid dynamics software tools can be useful in considering the effect on a printed circuit board of such things as package selection, board layout and structure as well as enclosure design.

This Mentor Graphics white paper explains:

-  Approaches to PCB thermal management studies with CFD

-  Automating PCB thermal design modifications using Design of Experiments

-  Utilizing parametric studies to explore a range of operating scenarios early in the design process

-  Example: Heatsink optimization for cPCI card for cost-effective design

-  Tradeoffs: Heat sink geometry & mass vs component allowable temperature ranges and layout

The EDA Consortium (EDAC) Market Statistics Service (MSS) today announced that the Electronic Design Automation (EDA) industry revenue declined 1.9 percent for Q4 2015 to $2064.5 million, compared to $2104 million in Q4 2014. The four-quarters moving average, which compares the most recent four quarters to the prior four quarters, increased by 5 percent.

"After 23 consecutive quarters of growth, the EDA industry revenues declined slightly in the fourth quarter, compared to a particularly strong Q4 2014," said Walden C. Rhines, board sponsor for the EDAC MSS and chairman and CEO of Mentor Graphics. "However, industry revenue increased 5 percent for calendar 2015 compared to 2014, and the semiconductor IP and services categories increased in Q4. Geographically, the Asia Pacific...

Electronics manufacturers constantly hunt for ways to make faster, cheaper computer chips, often by cutting production costs or by shrinking component sizes. Now, researchers report that DNA, the genetic material of life, might help accomplish this goal when it is formed into specific shapes through a process reminiscent of the ancient art of paper folding.
