EMA Design Automation  has integrated OrCAD Capture Cloud with Ultra Librarian, providing electronics engineers with a cloud-based design tool that is fully scalable to a professional, production-ready printed circuit board (PCB) design solution.

“Existing online design tools either lock users into a specific PCB manufacturer or don’t scale to a production-ready design process,” said Manny Marcano, president and CEO of EMA. “Integrating OrCAD Capture Cloud and Ultra Librarian provides designers with a cloud-based OrCAD Capture schematic entry tool and a comprehensive library of symbols, footprints, and 3D models that works with a proven PCB design suite for high-quality results.”

OrCAD Capture Cloud is a free, web-based subset of the OrCAD Capture schematic design tool...

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. announced Cadence Allegro Pulse, the PCB industry’s first solution to enable extended team collaboration by providing near-real-time insights into the complexities of the electronic design process. Allegro Pulse connects management, engineering, procurement and other business stakeholders to up-to-date work-in-progress design data in a single, unified web-based platform, enabling design teams to identify critical issues sooner, better evaluate readiness and predict and mitigate risk. As a result, companies can significantly reduce end-product cost, shorten design cycles, enable IP reuse and avoid costly fixes later in the design cycle.

Faster time-to-market demands have placed tremendous pressure upon today’s electronic design process. Multiple...

Over the past several years, "Library Expert Professional" has been a leading PCB Library automation tool that has had hundreds of new features and upgrades including automation for 3D STEP model creation, footprint designer for non-standard packages, new standard component families, upgraded CAD LEAP Technology (User Preferences) and much more, including schematic symbol support. These features have made the Library Expert as the most powerful footprint and 3D STEP tool in the industry. The Library Expert Pro, the industry’s original IPC-7351-based footprint generator, has outgrown its name, and is now "Library Expert Enterprise".

This change better reflects the advanced features it currently has, the new features planned for 2018, and its capacity to provide enterprise-level...

1. TTM Shines a Light on Optical Interconnect

Are embedded optics on PCBs set to make a breakthrough in the upcoming years? According to Dr. Craig Davidson, VP of Corporate Technology at TTM, it might be closer than you’d expect. In a recent interview with the I-Connect007 team, Craig outlines TTM’s current pursuit of high-volume manufacturing lines able to deliver embedded optical interconnect, what that would mean for the PCB industry, and why he thinks there will be manufacturing production capability by 2020.

Mentor, a Siemens business, has announced the winners of its second annual FloEFD Frontloading Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) Award. This award recognizes individuals who have successfully implemented the practice of moving CFD simulation early into their design process using the Mentor® award-winning FloEFD™ technology. This methodology reduces the overall simulation time by as much as 65-75 percent and offers x2 to x40 user productivity enhancement relative to traditional CFD approaches.

A panel of judges selected the finalists based on submission criteria. Entrants were required to demonstrate the application of frontloading CFD with quantifiable results through published or publicly presented documentation. This included published technical and conference papers,...

Cadence Design Systems, Inc. today announced Cadence Allegro DesignTrue DFM technology, the industry’s first solution to perform real-time, in-design design-for-manufacturing (DFM) checks integrated with electrical, physical and spacing design rule checks (DRCs). The innovative new technology, integrated into the Allegro PCB Editor, enables PCB designers to identify and correct errors immediately, long before manufacturing signoff. By finding errors earlier, design teams reduce rework, shorten design cycles and accelerate the new product development and introduction process, potentially saving at least one day per iteration and days to weeks overall.

Unlike manufacturing signoff tools that are run in batch mode when performing DFM checks, Allegro DesignTrue DFM technology...
